Advice from TripExtras on How to Make Flying with an Injury Easier

Press Release | October 14th 2010

Travelling with an injury can be difficult but a few simple tips can make the experience that much easier says TripExtras.

“Travelling through an airport is stressful at the best of times, but when you have a broken leg or are recovering from an illness it can be even worse,” says James Berry, Director of TripExtras. “Our advice is a tried and tested formula to help ease the experience.”

Tip1 – Book a taxi from your house or if you are still able to drive, book meet and greet airport parking where a driver will park your car for you. Either way you will not have to struggle with your heavy bags and you will be delivered right to the door of the departure terminal.

Tip 2 - Research the check-in procedure for your airline as most offer online check-in and printable boarding passes. This can not only save you time at the airport, but you can avoid entirely having to stand in the long check-in queues.

Tip 3 – Contact the airline directly ahead of time to arrange for an electric cart or wheelchair to whisk you through the terminal – perfect if your gate is at the furthest possible point. They usually need 48 hours notice and you will be eligible for pre-boarding as well. If you’ve left it to the last minute ask at the check-in counter or at the special assistance desk at the airport.

Tip 4 – Ensure you get a comfy seat and the peace and quiet you need while you are waiting for your flight by booking into a VIP airport lounge. This means you can escape from the boisterous crowds of the terminal and can guarantee that you will actually get to sit down. Although there is a cost, you will benefit from free drinks and snacks. Tip 5 – Avoid the scramble and long queues for taxis or public transport when you reach the other end by booking a private airport transfer beforehand. You will then have a driver to meet you at the arrivals gate who will help with your luggage and take you straight to your hotel.
